Letter to the President

Dear President Obama,

I respect you a great deal and believe you are doing your absolute best to get our country back together... however I would ask you to consider the following:

What JESUS runs away from

Paraphrased from The Essential Rumi

Jesus was running up a slope one day, as if a wild animal were chasing him. Someone followed after him and asked, "Where are you going? No one is after you."

Jesus continued running across two more fields, saying nothing at all.

"Are you the One who says words over a dead person so that he wakes up?"

        "I am." Jesus responded.

"And did you not make the clay birds fly?"

        "Yes." Jesus responded breathlessly.

"Who then could possibly cause you to run like this?" the person inquired.

Jesus slowed His pace and began to speak, "I say the Great Name over the deaf and the blind and they are healed. Over a stony mountainside and it tears its mantle down to the navel. Over non-existence and it comes into being. But when I speak lovingly for hours and even days with those who take human warmth and mock it, when I say the Name to them... nothing happens. They remain rock or turn to sand, where no plants can grow. Other diseases are ways for mercy to enter... but this non-responding breed's violence and coldness towards God. I am fleeing from that.

As little by little, air steals water, so praise dries up and evaporates with foolish people who refuse to change. Like the cold stone you sit on, a cynic steals body heat. He doesn't feel the Sun."

I have held back for several months on writing from my heart... but feel the time has come again to speak out. To simply say "I told you so!" in regards to the Bush administration is not enough... to much has happened and the atrocities now being linked to the Bush years are unpardonable. Sodomy, rape and murder, especially when children are included, are crimes that need to be acknowledged and all of those responsible must be held accountable.

If the United States is ever to be considered a JUST Nation again, it must act now to Right the wrongs it has done. We can not sit this one out and hope that time will erase it from our history. We must demand justice for the victims of our military and hired mercenaries and it must go all the way to the Commander and Chief who gave his approval for these actions... for if we choose to ignore these crimes, we will become the cold stones that Jesus is running away from.
